A delivery van containing several hundred copies of Grand Theft Auto IV intended for area Best Buy stores was stolen from outside an Eastern Missouri McDonald’s yesterday, sources in the Missouri management of Best Buy confirmed. “The driver of the truck parked in the McDonald’s parking lot, went in to get lunch, then came out to find his truck had gone missing,” a Best Buy executive explained.

Whether the perpetrator knew what the truck contained is unclear. The Grand Theft Auto series has raised parental eyebrows for its unrestrained violence and heavy sexual content, but fortunately the theft of the truck did not involve any casualties, according to the McDonald’s employees on the scene.

Reached for comment late last night, an executive at Take-Two Interactive Corporation, the game’s developer, said that “the irony was not lost on her.” She went on to say that yes, the game is a hot item and the truck could have been targeted, but on the other hand Take-Two Interactive has shipped so many millions of copies of the game that “something like this was bound to happen.”
